Paediatric MSK injuries & head injuries

From playground falls to weekend match knocks, musculoskeletal (MSK) and head injuries are common in children and teenagers. Our Consultant Paediatrician, Dr Nicholas Richens, provides calm, expert assessment for sprains, suspected minor fractures, sports injuries, head injuries and concussion. We focus on identifying significant injury, easing pain, guiding safe recovery and preventing recurrence.

What we help with includes:

• Sprains, strains and soft‑tissue injuries
• Minor and suspected undisplaced fractures
• Sports injuries, overuse pain and growth‑plate concerns
• Head injuries, post‑injury headaches and concussion advice
• Return‑to‑learn and return‑to‑play planning

Your child will receive a thorough history and examination, age‑appropriate explanation, and a clear plan. Where indicated, we can organise imaging, splinting advice, school/sports notes, and onward referrals to paediatric orthopaedics, physiotherapy or neurology. We’ll also provide written safety‑netting and follow‑up.

If your child has red‑flag symptoms (persistent loss of consciousness, worsening severe headache, repeated vomiting, confusion, seizures, limb deformity, or concerning neck pain after high‑energy trauma) go to A&E or call 999 immediately.
