Take charge of your health from home—even if you’re symptom-free—with Mayfield Clinic’s trusted testing services. Knowing your GBS status can provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
A laboratory GBS swab test is the only reliable way to confirm if you are a carrier. Many people never experience any symptoms but may still carry the bacterium.
Carrying GBS does not mean you have an infection or are unwell. It’s simply part of your microbiome. Letting healthcare providers know your GBS status is important for future care if you become pregnant.
If you are pregnant, disclose your GBS status to your maternity team. If not pregnant, simply be aware and monitor for changes in symptoms or new infections.
Self-collect vaginal and rectal swabs at home to test for Group B Strep.
