Under-Fives GP Care in Bristol: Fevers, Rashes and Reassurance

Private GP

26/08/2026 by Dr Adrian Burt

No patient group generates more midnight worry per kilogram than the under-fives. They can't tell you what hurts, their temperatures swing alarmingly, and every rash demands the tumbler test. What parents need is simple: prompt access to a doctor with time to assess properly and answer everything.

What we see most at our Bristol clinic

How we work with small children

Gently and without hurry. Appointments are long enough to let a wary toddler acclimatise, to examine thoroughly without a struggle, and to work through the parental question list, including the ones that feel too small to ask. They aren't.

The safety line, clearly drawn

Our GPs will always tell you plainly when something needs hospital rather than clinic. A baby or child who is struggling to breathe, unusually drowsy or floppy, or has a rash that doesn't fade under pressure needs emergency care immediately. Everything else, bring to us, usually today.

Frequently asked questions

Can my baby or toddler be seen same-day in Bristol?

Usually, yes. Under-fives are exactly who same-day access exists for. Book online, or start with a video consultation for quick advice.

What temperature counts as a fever in a child?

38°C or above. What matters as much as the number is how your child seems in themselves. Your GP will assess both and explain the warning signs to watch.

Do you do development checks for babies and toddlers?

Yes. Milestones, growth, feeding and speech can all be reviewed, with time to discuss any concerns properly and refer onwards if ever needed.
