Tired All the Time? The Blood Tests That Find Answers

Blood tests

"Tired all the time" is one of the most common reasons people see a GP, and one of the most commonly dismissed. Persistent fatigue is not a character flaw or an inevitability of modern life. It has causes, many of them findable on a blood panel, and most of them treatable.

What we look for

At our Hitchin clinic, a fatigue work-up typically includes:

The consultation matters as much as the tests

Sleep quality, stress, mood, medications, snoring (sleep apnoea is under-diagnosed), and life load all belong in the conversation. Your GP will take a proper history first so the testing is targeted, and interpret results in context, because a 'normal range' number isn't always normal for you.

Results with a plan

Results arrive within days, with a GP summary and a follow-up plan: treat what's found, investigate further if needed, or rule things out so you can address the rest with confidence. That last one is genuinely useful in itself.

Frequently asked questions

Which blood tests should I have for constant tiredness?

A typical panel covers full blood count, iron, thyroid, vitamin D, B12 and blood sugar, but your Hitchin GP will tailor it to your history so you're not paying for tests that won't help.

What if my fatigue blood tests come back normal?

That's useful information too. Your GP will then look properly at sleep, mood, stress and other causes. Normal bloods narrow the search rather than ending it.

How quickly can I get fatigue blood tests in Hitchin?

Usually within days, often same-week. Results typically return within 24-72 hours with a GP summary and a clear plan for what happens next.
