Our CEO has launched Jump, a new medical records system for private GPs

Something a little different from us today. Mayfield’s CEO, Gus Kennedy, has launched a new venture: Jump, an electronic health record (EHR) system built specifically for private GP practices in the UK.

Why a GP practice is writing about software

The systems behind a consultation matter more than most patients ever see. When your GP checks whether a new prescription interacts with something you already take, records your history in a way the next clinician can actually use, or sends your referral letter the same day, software is doing a lot of the quiet work.

Private general practice in the UK has an awkward relationship with that software. The clinical systems used across the NHS, such as EMIS and SystmOne, are mature and clinically deep, but they were never designed for private practice. The tools built for private clinics tend to get the invoicing right and the clinical safety features wrong, or missing altogether.

Running Mayfield has meant living with that gap for years. Jump is Gus’s answer to it.

What Jump is

Jump is a cloud-based EHR for private GP practices, from solo practitioners to multi-GP clinics. It combines clinical records, appointment booking, video consultations, patient messaging and invoicing in one place.

Two design choices stand out to us as clinicians:

• NHS-grade clinical safety features. Jump checks prescriptions against the NHS dm+d drug dictionary for interactions and allergies, the same class of safety net NHS GPs rely on every day.
• Structured, coded notes. Consultations are recorded using SNOMED CT, the clinical coding standard used across the NHS. That means records that can move with a patient and be understood by any clinician, rather than free-text notes trapped in one system.

For patients, features like this are invisible when they work. They are the difference between a clinic that looks safe and one that is.

What this means for Mayfield patients

Day to day, nothing changes. Mayfield and Jump are separate companies, and this post is us being open about the connection rather than announcing any change to how the clinic runs.

But we care about where private general practice is heading. Better clinical systems mean safer prescribing, better continuity between clinicians, and less time spent on admin instead of patients. We are proud to see that work coming from our CEO, and we will be following Jump closely as it grows.
