Feeling Unwell: Is It Just a Cold, or Something More?

It’s a scenario familiar to many in the UK: a sore throat, runny nose, maybe a cough—classic cold symptoms. But with COVID-19, flu, and RSV circulating, it’s trickier than ever to know what you’re dealing with.

At Mayfield Clinic, we understand the anxiety these symptoms cause, especially as they overlap between illnesses. Recognising when you should seek further testing is key for your health and for those around you.

What Are the Symptoms of COVID-19, Flu, and RSV?

Many respiratory infections have overlapping symptoms—but their treatment, risk, and isolation rules can differ.

Understanding Home PCR Testing for Respiratory Viruses

PCR tests are highly sensitive, detecting viral genetic material even before symptoms become obvious. Our At-Home Respiratory PCR Panel Test uses a simple self-collected nose and throat swab to check for COVID-19, flu A & B, and RSV—delivering results in just two working days.

When Should You Consider Testing?

Anyone with sudden respiratory symptoms during peak season may benefit from a PCR panel test for peace of mind and appropriate action.
