What you're actually buying

Not better doctors; the NHS has excellent GPs. You're buying time and access: appointments today rather than in weeks, consultations long enough for the whole problem, the same GP every visit, results explained properly, referrals arranged promptly. When it's clearly worth it

• You need to be seen quickly and can't wait weeks
• You have multiple or complex concerns that don't fit ten-minute slots
• Continuity matters: ongoing conditions, or you're tired of re-explaining your history
• Your time has a cost, and missed work and repeated call-backs aren't free either
• You want a proactive relationship with a doctor who knows you

When it isn't

If your NHS practice serves you well, your needs are occasional and simple, and waiting doesn't cost you much, then you may not need us, and that's fine. Private GP care is a complement to the NHS, not a replacement; emergencies still belong with 999 and A&E.
