If you have any concerns about your mental health, a GP can help. Mental health conditions a GP can help with range from depression to anxiety, eating disorders to bipolar disorder to name a few. A GP can make a diagnosis, offer you support and treatment options, refer you to a mental health specialist and recommend local support options.
Seeing a GP about your mental health concerns is often the first step in helping you manage and treat your concerns. If you are finding that you are worrying more than usual, not enjoying your life, having thoughts that you are finding hard to cope with or struggling to maintain your normal activities, speaking to a GP can help. If you have spoken to a GP about your mental health concerns before, regular check ins can form an important part in managing your condition and supporting you. If you have concerns that your mental health has deteriorated, a check in with a GP can help.
Our GPs will have time in the online consultation to discuss your current circumstances and offer advice/guidance about how is best to proceed. The consultation may involve just discussion, issuing of medication if appropriate and agreed, or perhaps the suggestion of an onward referral. All our GPs are very experienced in supporting patients with mental health difficulties and work in an open, supportive and collaborative way with the patient.
You can use Mayfield Clinic alongside your existing NHS GP practice. We believe in joined-up care; we don’t believe that it is in your best interests to have different doctors independently trying to treat you. For this reason, once you’ve seen a Mayfield Clinic GP we aim (with your permission) to share your consultation notes back with your current NHS GP.
For example, if you can’t get an appointment at your local GP practice this week, you can book in with Mayfield Clinic’s GPs. With your consent, we’ll share the Mayfield Clinic consultation notes back with you and your NHS GP, so that when you next see your NHS GP they will have a full picture of your care history.
