Monkeypox is a rare disease which is caused by infection with monkeypox virus (MPXV). Although it is rare, it can infect anyone who comes into direct contact with lesions or scabs, body fluids, respiratory droplets or contaminated linens or towels.
The advice from the UK government is that all suspected and confirmed cases of monkeypox require respiratory isolation to control and prevent spread of the infection. It is therefore really important that if you suspect you have monkeypox to get tested so you can isolate yourself if required.
Your test will be conducted in a designated outside area, so you don’t need to come into the building and be in contact with other patients and staff. Please notify us when you are outside the clinic and your GP will come and meet you outside.
No, the monkeypox test needs to be conducted by an experienced GP at our Oxford Clinic.
Your results will be back with the GP within 2-3 working days and your GP will be in contact with you to share your results.
You can use Mayfield Clinic alongside your existing NHS GP practice. We believe in joined-up care; we don’t believe that it is in your best interests to have different doctors independently trying to treat you. For this reason, once you’ve seen a Mayfield Clinic GP we aim (with your permission) to share your consultation notes back with your current NHS GP.
For example, if you can’t get an appointment at your local GP practice this week, you can book in with Mayfield Clinic’s GPs. With your consent, we’ll share the Mayfield Clinic consultation notes back with you and your NHS GP, so that when you next see your NHS GP they will have a full picture of your care history.
