IgG and IgM Blood Testing
We offer two antibody tests to identify past infection with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) or response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations. The tests available are developed by Roche and VirTus (an Imperial College London spin-out).
Both tests detect antibodies developed in response to the vaccines in use in the UK as part of the NHS' vaccine program. They utilise the receptor binding domain (RBD) of Spike antigen, where as traditional antibody tests seek the nucleocapsid.

What is the difference between venous and capillary sampling? Venous sampling requires a healthcare professional to draw the blood from a vein. Capillary sampling enables the use of a home-test kit, where you draw blood from a fingerprick.
What is the difference between the Roche test and the VirTus test? The VirTus test provides a quantitative score for both IgG (long-term) and IgM (short-term) antibody levels, and interpretation as to whether levels are Very high, High, Med or Low. The Roche provides one score for overall antibody level, and no interpretation
Who is this suitable for? Those aged 16 or over
What will a spike protein antibody test identify? The body's response to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection or the body's response to vaccination against SARS-CoV-2
How soon after vaccination might I test positive to antibodies? We recommend waiting a minimum of 14 days
How are results sent? For the Roche test, they will be sent via SMS. For the VirTus, by email once you've registered your kit online.
Are results sent over the weekend? For the Roche test, they will be sent Mon-Fri once available. For the VirTus, they are sent directly by the lab on the day of testing.
