2021 Winter Flu Vaccination Service

Posted: 07/09/2021

As winter 2021 approaches, we are encouraging patients registered at Mayfield Clinic to plan to obtain a flu-vaccination to offer protection against seasonal flu strains. Seasonal flu can cause serious health complications, and we encourage all registered patients to obtain a vaccination from Mayfield Clinic or from the NHS (if eligible). We are currently able to offer two types of vaccination; a standard intramuscular vaccine for those aged under 65, and a Fluad Tetra vaccine for those aged 65 or over. Appointments can be booked via the link below.

Influenza levels were extremely low globally in 2020 to 2021. As a result, a lower level of population immunity against influenza is expected in 2021 to 2022. It is expected that winter 2021 to 2022 will be the first winter in the UK when seasonal influenza virus (and other respiratory viruses) will co-circulate with Covid-19. Across the UK we are aiming for as high an uptake for flu vaccinations in 2021/22 as possible.

Supplies of the nasal flu vaccine Fluenz are not available to the private sector until November or December at the earliest and as soon as these are available to us we will ensure that this is bookable on our website. Please see this link for the egg content of this year’s flu vaccines.
