Any Questions?

While you can eat before most allergy tests, you should avoid eating food that you've had a reaction to prior.

Allergies are essentially the immune system responding to a substance as though it was harmful. It is not known exactly what causes the body to react in this way. Allergies are often hereditary, and the number of people will allergies is increasing every year.

Symptoms of allergies can vary depending on what is causing the allergy. Symptoms of hay fever include sneezing, runny or blocked nose, watery or red eyes and itching of the eyes or nose. A food allergy can cause tingling in the mouth, hives and swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat. An insect sting allergy can cause a large area of swelling, itching, hives, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. An allergy of the skin, also known as dermatitis or eczema can cause the skin to become itchy, red or flaky. In some severe cases, a severe allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis can set in where the body goes into shock and emergency medical assistance should be sought.

Allergies are very common and there are many things that we can be allergic to. These include: pollen, dust, animal fur, foods (particularly nuts, fruit, shellfish and milk), insect bites, medicines, household chemicals, mould and latex.

You can use Mayfield Clinic alongside your existing NHS GP practice. We believe in joined-up care; we don’t believe that it is in your best interests to have different doctors independently trying to treat you. For this reason, once you’ve seen a Mayfield Clinic GP we aim (with your permission) to share your consultation notes back with your current NHS GP.

For example, if you can’t get an appointment at your local GP practice this week, you can book in with Mayfield Clinic’s GPs. With your consent, we’ll share the Mayfield Clinic consultation notes back with you and your NHS GP, so that when you next see your NHS GP they will have a full picture of your care history.

Here at Mayfield Clinic, we understand that waiting for your NHS GP can be time-consuming and frustrating and when you have a medical concern you want to get seen quickly to alleviate the symptoms. That's why we offer same-day appointments with our expertly trained doctors, both in-person and online, through video consultations. Our GPs can provide first-class private healthcare. We work with leading practitioners, trained and worked for the NHS, registered with the General Medical Council, and work under Mayfield Clinic's CQC registration.
